Story Behind The Song
My daddy was a deadbeat. I found out only later in life that he spent a lot of time in jail after leaving my mother and my brothers. I thought "how perfect". This is a really angry sounding song. I sound like I'm really angry, don't I? I'm over it.
Song Description
A song about dead-beat dads. Jerk-offs who don't pay child support and wind up as bums might as well be locked up. Abandoning your children is a crime.

Lyrics
Don't bother asking me for no dime
Just commit the crime
and look forward to the time
that you will spend
in the pen
'Cause a hard metal bed
is still better than
no roof over your head
when you're homeless, man!
This world was not made for the weak
and everybody's got to make ends meet
Your babies are crying and your time is running low
You might as well be...
You might as well be
a criminal.
My daddy went to jail 'cause he broke the law
left me and my brothers behind
for a crime that we never saw
and no money, nobody
to care for his kin
To this day I suspect
her turned himself in.
'Cause this world was not made for the weak
and everybody's got to make ends meet
Your babies are crying and your time is running low
You might as well be...
You might as well be
a criminal.
Do it, do it, do it don't stop
Do it, do it, do it, do it till you get caught
Do it, do it, do it till they lock you up
Do it, do it, do it till they mess you up
'Cause winter's just around the bend
and won't you get cold
lying on that bench?
If you could find a way to make the rents
would you take that road?
And would you
take a chance?
'Cause this world was not made for the weak
and everybody's got to make ends meet
Your babies are crying and your time is running low
You might as well be...
You might as well be
a criminal.
