Story Behind the Song

It only happened to me once, with a friend's baby (not with my own), and it was as though time and space disappeeared entirely. We saw each other rarely, but the closeness continued until his death at age 19 in an untimely accident.

Lyrics

MICHAEL

He was nothing different to look at,
Just another baby two months old,
But his eyes so full of timeless mystery
Reached out to me and took hold.
Who's in there, Michael?
Does that helpless body hide a friend of mine?
What'cha saying, Michael? Are you praying for me, Michael?
If I fall too deep into your eyes I'll win my race with time.

Those eyes reached out and drew me in,
I could not look away,
Solemn, calm, and gentle inner,
Infinity today. (chorus)

So fresh from where we came from
And so close to long ago,
You could tell all the secrets of the universe,
And you know how much I want to know. (chorus)
