Story Behind The Song
I wrote this in the dead of winter in Kansas, after one of those better forgotten love affairs, which now I will never forget because I wrote a damn song about it!
Song Description
Story of a one night stand between a woman who is a poet and an unenlightened and self-absorbed man, and the consequences tof those types of relationships to her character. She is like to a wounded bird keeping her song inside.

Lyrics
Wounded Bird
Marghi Allen
(c) 1979
She stood alone at the break of dawn
With just her robe and her slippers on
And through the frost on the window pane
She watched him leave.
On her pillow a blond hair lay
In her hand it curled around
Her little finger like a snake
No more of him remained.
In her dark room late at night
She sits and watches candle light
There is another poem to write
Another memory to save.
He sits alone and sips his tea
She doesn?t haunt his memory
Just a faceless creature in the endless sea
He can?t even recall her name.
In his head the spring lies dead
It?s just a dream of green beyond
The barren wasteland of the cold
He has never felt it change.
She downs her coffee in cups of three
She doesn?t want no sympathy
There is so much that he will never see
So much she can?t explain.
The snow falls, layers, white on gray,
A wounded bird with no wings to fly
Huddles cold with a song inside
Will it always be that way?
A wounded bird with a song inside
Will she always be that way?
