Hope for the Trees

Story Behind The Song

A wonderful feature of this trail is its extraordinarily diverse flora. Most impressive are the southern live oaks which thrive in the hardwood forests of the region. The hardwood forests are also dominated by evergreen trees whose broad leaves create what are called hammocks, a term that means ?shady place?. More species of plants and trees, including rare and exotic orchids, live in this region than in any other place in the continental US. The region of South Florida, amongst the rocky limestone soil, contains tropical trees and wildlife such as those found in the Bahamas. Due to residential and commercial development, these unique plant communities are sadly and rapidly diminishing.
