Just A Player

Story Behind The Song

Based on experiences that many of my friends and I have had, I thought it was about time that I wrote a song about all those players out there as I am sick and tired of friends getting hurt by them - players never change, they are only after one thing and I've had enough of them! I'ver written in this a quirky, catchy style, without being too angry or bitter as I believe everyone is capable of making their own decisions when it comes to relationships, just feel that those players out there need a little bit of a ticking off!

Song Description

The song tells the story of a week in the life of a girl and one of her friends. The friend is the narrator who sings the song and the other girl is the subject around whom the song is based. The girl goes out after work and happens to meet a guy in a bar who asks for her number. The narrator sings a warning to the girl that she has seen this happen all too many times and to warn her that this guy is just a "player" meaning that he is only after a one night stand and that's all. Verse 2 goes on to describe the "player" building up a relationship with the girl, he sends her texts, chats to her on msn and she thinks he is geniune and agrees to go out for dinner and drinks with him. The bridge and chorus repeats the warnings sung by the narrator, to watch out because this guy is "just a player." The final verse sees the week ending with the narrator getting a call from her friend, who had a great date with the guy on the friday night, she thought it went really well, he told her that they clicked and so she ended going back with him and staying the night. And he promised to call and now - surprise, surprise, she hasn't heard from him. The narrator tells the girl it makes her sick that guys treat girls this way and that is his loss! The bridge and chorus round up the story - watch out for "Players" girls!

Lyrics

Tuesday night and you've finished work,
You hate your job as an office clerk
So you agree to meet a friend for a drink
"This could cheer me up" you think.
There you are just a-passing the time,
Chillin' out with a vodka and lime
When you clock this guy at the side of the room,
Your belly goes a flip-flop and your heart goes boom!
He saunters over but you play it cool -
You've been stung before and girl you ain't no fool,
You tell him that you're waiting here for your mate
And aint' it just a-typical that she is late.
He asks if he can take you for a drink sometime
Scribble out your number, yeah you're feelin' fine
But you know you're being drawn right back into the game
And the outcome is always the same.

Don't shoot the messenger, coz I just sing what I see
I know only too well because darlin' it happened to me

He just a player girl, he just a player -
He love you yeah, but only for one night
He just a player girl, he just a player
Wish I was wrong but I know I will be proved right.

Wednesday arrives and there's a text on your phone:
"GIrl you threw this dirty dawg a great big bone,
A prettier chick I'd be hard pressed to find
And now it seems that I can't get you off my mind."
Hit a reply - well what harm can it do?
The next thing, he's on msn to you
It seem this guy he really wanna treat you right,
So you agree to drinks and dinner on friday night.
730 friday evening can't come soon enough -
You think you really like him but you're acting tough
He seem to be the real deal and you're getting fond
Through all your chit-chat and your this-that there's a definate bond.
I hate to put a downer on your big night out,
But dontcha really know what this guy's all about?
He's a cruiser and a user, yeah they're all the same -
Go home with him tonight he'll never call again.

Don't shoot the messenger, coz I just sing what I see
I know only too well because darlin' it happened to me

He just a player girl, he just a player -
He love you yeah, but only for one night
He just a player girl, he just a player
Wish I was wrong but I know I will be proved right.

On sunday then I get a call from you
You're feelin all confused and don't know what to do
Friday night was a dream and yeah it seemed so right
Only natural that you should wanna stay the night
He looked into your eyes and said that you had clicked
But still he hasn't called and it just makes me sick
He only cares about his conquests and another notch
But let me tell you baby - it's his loss!

Don't shoot the messenger, coz I just sing what I see
I know only too well because darlin' it happened to me

He just a player girl, he just a player -
He love you yeah, but only for one night
He just a player girl, he just a player
Wish I was wrong but I know I will be proved right.
He just a player girl, he just a player -
He love you yeah, but only for one night
He just a player girl, he just a player
Wish I was wrong but I know I will be proved right.

Yeah, he is just a player, just a player
Yeah, he is just a player, that's what I'm sayin'.
