Sitting at the counter at the local five and dime,
She was sippin' cherry coke,
She was laughin' at a joke,
When I happened by.

At first I didn't see her,
But I heard her right away
Laughing and talking for awhile.
She looked up at me and waved
And gave me a smile.

Once I caught my breath
I started to walk her way.
She got up to leave.
I wanted for her to stay.
Then she came over.

Gee, it's been a long time.

How have you been? Good I hope.
I told a little joke
And it made her smile.

She was flippin' back her hair,
Looking like she had

I wanted to scream,
"Can't you see that I want you to stay with me."
But I just couldn't find the words,
So I stood there watching her get her purse.

And she pulled her cape around her
And looked back at the door, and I just
stood there watching her turn away from me, give a wave,
and then she just walked away.

Even though I haven't seen her
Since the day she walked away
I can still see her in my mind
Like I'm walking back in time-

When I think about her
I can see her and myself,
Just like a faded fuzzy photo
In an album on a shelf
Frozen in time.

Running through my mind
Is a melody, I can't get rid of it.

So I sit at my piano,
