As She Walks Away

Song Length 0:00 Genre Unique - General

Lyrics

Sitting at the counter at the local five and dime,
She was sippin' cherry coke,
She was laughin' at a joke,
When I happened by.

At first I didn't see her,
But I heard her right away
Laughing and talking for awhile.
She looked up at me and waved
And gave me a smile.

Once I caught my breath
I started to walk her way.
She got up to leave.
I wanted for her to stay.
Then she came over.

Gee, it's been a long time.
Haven't seen you for a while.
How have you been? Good I hope.
I told a little joke
And it made her smile.

Gee, it's good to see you.
Well, I guess I'd better go.
She was flippin' back her hair,
Looking like she had
Not a care in the world.

I wanted to scream,
"Can't you see that I want you to stay with me."
But I just couldn't find the words,
So I stood there watching her get her purse.

And she pulled her cape around her
And looked back at the door, and I just
stood there watching her turn away from me, give a wave,
and then she just walked away.

Even though I haven't seen her
Since the day she walked away
I can still see her in my mind
Like I'm walking back in time-
Like Yesterday.

When I think about her
I can see her and myself,
Just like a faded fuzzy photo
In an album on a shelf
Frozen in time.

Running through my mind
Is a melody, I can't get rid of it.
I keep reaching, the notes are there
For a song I find that I want to share,

So I sit at my piano,
I can hear the song so clearly now,
And I start to play. The notes are
Dancing, they paint a picture
Of When She Walked Away.

Sitting at the counter
Of the local five and dime.
She was sippin' cherry coke.
She was laughin' at a joke,
When I happened by.

At first I didn't see her,
But I heard her right away,
Laughing and talking for awhile.
She looked up at me and waved, and gave me a smile.

I still catch my breath
Today when I think of her
Walking in her cape,
Her step was so light and sure.
I can't forget her.

I can see her as she's walking
I can see her as she's talking
I can see her as she's laughing
I can see her as she walks away
And I never will forget her
And I never could forget that day
I'll remember the day
Yes, I'll remember the day
That she walked away.
