Lyrics
Callie
In town in Southern Georgia is a statue made of stone
Of a southern bell named Callie near her old plantation home.
In her face there?s fear and heartache with eyes revealing pain,
And her lips are still and silent but they say she calls his name.
The town folks speak of Callie they say she sometimes weeps,
As tears of grief roll down her face for the love that?s now asleep.
In a narrow grave he?s resting with a marker made of stone,
Though Callie?s heart is with him her statue stands alone.
Born with wealth and beauty and schooled in social grace,
Her father?d planned a wedding and chose for her a mate.
But Callie loved another and the Town Folks all have said,
The love they shared together is not buried nor is it dead.
In the courtroom there was justify Callie?s father did confess,
And just a few days later from heartache she?d found rest.
And the young man her intended the one her father has choose,
Carved out a sad reminder in this statue made of stone.
When the people talk of Callie they say it?s just a shame,
That from power, love and money only one thing still remains.
Only one thing still remains, it?s only love that still remains.
