Song Description

This is about arguing or fighting with someone you love, then making up and moving on.

Story Behind the Song

I was getting ready to go play piano in a restaurant one night, and a melody popped into my head, simultaneously with some charming lyrics. Although I wasn't in a relationship at the time, I approached it as if I were. I addressed how stubborn I am, how I refuse to apologize even when I know I'm wrong, how I know that even when I do this, I am always alienating the one person that could make it all better...

Lyrics

Sometimes I take you for granted
I forget how lucky I am
Sometimes I don?t know how you stand it
Why you put up with me, I?ll never understand

And I say fine, you say okay
We?ll talk about it another day
But I can?t say I?m sorry when I?m not
Then I think, why should I stay
I don?t have to live this way
But the truth is you?re all that I?ve got
The truth is you?re all that I?ve got

We fight a little more now than we used to
We turn molehills into mountains every day
I don?t know exactly why we hurt each other like we do
We?re always on the verge of giving up and walking away

And I say fine, you say okay
We?ll talk about it another day
But I can?t say I?m sorry when I?m not
Then I think, why should I stay
I don?t have to live this way
But the truth is you?re all that I?ve got
The truth is you?re all that I?ve got

Thank God I come to my senses
Just before you?ve had all you can take
Thank God I tear down my defenses
And apologize before our hearts have the chance to break

I say I?m sorry you say okay
And we?ll make it another day
I love you, in case you forgot
I?m still yours, I?m still the same
My love for you will never change
And the truth is you?re all that I?ve got
And I say fine, you say okay
We?ll talk about it another day
But I can?t say I?m sorry when I?m not
Then I think maybe I?ll just stay
Oh I love living this way
And the truth is you?re all that I?ve got
The truth is you?re all, the truth is you?re all
Yes, the truth is you?re all that I?ve got
