Song Description

Song is about high school and college days and growing up. It talks about the things that kids use to do before the cell phones and video games. Reminiscing about high school/college days and growing up and also pays tribute to those that have passed on.

Story Behind the Song

I was looking at my high school year book in anticipation of an upcoming class reunion. It had been long time since I had thought about that time in my life. I had my guitar close by and about an hour later a new song was born. I also created a video of old pictures to go along with the song. When people watch it, there is not a dry eye in the house. You know you have a good song when others can relate to it in that way.

Lyrics

We walked across that stage
Little did we know
The life that we would face
We were young, wild and free
Just living for the day
We'd be on our own

Some of us left
Some of us stayed
All made a new life
In so many ways
Looking back now
At how the world has changed
How could we have known

We were shagging the drag
Thinking we were cool
Bowling at the Ridgewood
And playing pool
Hanging out at Pizza Hut til'
one in the morning
Then racing in our cars
Until after dawn
We were on our own

I see unfamiliar faces
In familiar places
Funny
Some things never change
As I thumb through the pages
Of the days gone by
And the memories flow
From 30 years ago

We were shagging the drag
Thinking we were cool
Having parties at the meadows
And skipping school
Fishing at the dam
Swimming at the quarries
I know my mom and dad
Must have really worried
When I left my home

When life is coming hard at me
And seems too much to bear
I think about the place it all began

No matter what I say or do
No matter where I am
A piece of me is in the heartland

And to those that have left us
All way too fast
We'll make them a promise
And not forget the past
Cuz we miss you so
