Story Behind The Song
Based on a true story of how my Mom & Dad met, their marriage and the anguish and heartbreak my Father endured with my Mother's death.
Song Description
When my Dad first saw my Mom he was immediately taken with her beauty. But Mom had no interest. Daddy had an idea, he had stepped on Henry Fonda's foot in order to meet him so he came up with the idea that he would knocked my Mother down.
The first verse is meant to be funny however it is true in it's description of my Dad's determination to meet and marry my Mother.
The 2nd verse is simply telling of their life together and the 3 children they created out of love. But just as they were ready to enjoy their golden years my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. Anyone who has gone thru this horror is sympathetic to the family left behind.
The 3rd verse of the song is written in symbolism as to events surrounding my Mother's death. However it is very obvious what has happened with the very last line of the song: "He had One Heart to Give, he gave it to his wife." the ultimate declaration of undying love.

Lyrics
ONE HEART TO GIVE
1st Verse
He said hello, she walked on by.
She didn't even, bat and eye.
He swore the next day they'd meet.
So he knocked her down .... off her feet.
And he bent down, on just one knee,
He said some day you'll marry me.
(cause I has)
Bridge
One Heart to Give,
Take it ... Treat it right.
One Heart to Give
to love you, all my life.
2nd Verse
The day did come, they said I do.
A pledge of love ... til death undo.
Build a home, raise a family.
Girls and boy ... they number three.
Time has flown, more than fifty years.
Up & down ... lord, they've shed some tears.
(but he has)
Bridge
3rd Verse
He didn't see, it came so slow.
It took her heart ... her very soul.
Across her face, a shadow came.
Whose at fault ... whose to blame.
What can he do, he can't go on.
His one true love ... God, took her home.
(And he had ...)
Bridge
One Heart to give.
To love her, all his life.
One Heart to give.
She loved him all her life.
(and he had)
One Heart to give.
.... He gave it to his wife.
