Lyrics
Marriage of Two
© 2004 kate laurel smith, kate laurel publishing/ASCAP
Rarely have I known a time
When truth was barely pantomime
And innocence, devoured with delight
By scandals and their steely jaws
Opened up with sharpened claws
Beauty without the brawn to fight
Simple-minded candidates
Falling out of bed too late
To find their race lost without a chance
To puppets on a swinging wire
Moving steps, each one for hire
While lovers fall haplessly to dance
For far too many people this is nothing new
Love isn?t sacred
Love isn?t true
And the only way we?ll make it through
A marriage of not one, but two
Is to do what we say we will do
Do what we say we?ll do
What?s been lost, without fail
Falls upon a greater scale
This model, we?ve devised in vain
Magnifies the billboard signs
While the underground screams, ?Let us shine?
But we?re prey to our own pain
If all relevance is not
And salt refuses to taste like salt
How are we to understand, to live
A life of hallowed reverence
When black and white have left the list
And grayscale is all we?ve left to give
For far too many people this is nothing new?
