Druids' Oak

Story Behind The Song

When I was three or four years of age, my mother planted an oak tree in our yard outside my bedroom window. As I grew, so did the oak tree. It is now a massive tree towering above that house. As my personal spiritual journey unfolded, my celtic roots assumed great significance. I feel great connection with this sacred tree in a deeply significant spiritual sense.

Song Description

This song speaks first of the tree as it was in my childhood. A beautiful instrumental section (with bodhran) leads into the last couple of verses which are about my awareness of the significance of growing up under a sacred tree.

Lyrics

Under an oak my childhood passed
The tree it sheltered my chamber
With branches bare or covered in leaf
Protecting me in slumber.
A druid?s oak, alone it stood
Planted by my mother
The tree along with me it grew
In sun and rain and thunder
A mighty oak from legends old
Stood outside my window
A sacred tree special to me
It?s only now that I know that?
The Celtic roots of oak and child
Reach forever deeper
To sacred ground where truth is found
And wisdom floods its keeper
Through oaken door to knowledge pass
Into the halls of learning
Wonder grows and fills at last
A great and timeless yearning
Under an oak my childhood passed
A mighty spirit moves me
To claim all that I am at last
And be all that I can be
