A Person and Heart

Story Behind The Song

It was inspired by the art classes I took in high school and college. It seemed to me that people were the hardest thing for most students to accurately draw. No matter how much time they'd spend, there was still something missing.

Song Description

Even an excellent drawing of a person still leaves something out. They can't be completely captures with lines and color. There's something more.

Lyrics

I'm gonna try to paint the world, just like we did when we were kids. I don't know where to draw the lines. I wouldn't do it if I did.

I'll paint the trees a shade of green. I'll fill the ocean in with blue. Use every color that I have, still couldn't paint someone like you.

Chorus
Cause the hardest part is a person and a heart. That's the only thing I could never draw. 'Cause I don't know when someone starts, where they end. And I can't draw lines that can hold them in.

The finest line that I could draw, the one that almost makes it real, the one that looks just like your face, still couldn't show just how you feel

(chorus)

What color is heartache? What color is grief? What color is laughter? What color are dreams? How do you draw lonely? Where do you start? How do you draw everything we are?

(chorus)
