Story Behind The Song
This is a song I wrote for my sister after her husband mentally and physically abused her and was subsequently placed in jail for having sex with a sixteen year old girl.
Song Description
I wrote and recorded this song as one of my first solo recordings on CD. It is one of my well-known original songs. The recording sounds kind of dated to me and so I have stopped pushing it as one of my own songs. I think it would be a great hit for a female singer who can connect well with the words/topic. I am planning on giving this song a re-write and re-releasing it for my own uses. Would love to hear a talented female vocalist take a pop at this one! Thanks for reading.

Lyrics
Sister?s Lament
If you want to shine, shine for me girl
if you want to stay, stay for you
if you want to smile, smile for baby
don?t you let him take away the things that make you strong
what would you be then?
what would you save to believe in?
Sister take the time to think
sister take the time to breathe
this lament is yours, I know
and it?s not for me to say
what goes on there late at night
behind your doors and out of my sight
but if he touches you again I swear
you?ll hear me scream?
If you want to talk, talk to me girl
got an easy chair and a bottle of my best
if you want to cry, it?s only natural
if you let him take away the things you keep inside
what would you be then?
what would you save to believe in...
Sister take the time to think
sister take the time to breathe
this lament is yours, I know
and it?s not for me to say
what goes on there late at night
behind your doors and out of my sight
but if he touches you again I swear you?ll hear him scream
If you want to shine, shine for me girl
if you want to stay, stay for you
if you want to smile, smile for your babies
but don?t you let him take away the things that make you strong...
