What I Wouldn't Give

Story Behind The Song

Most of my songs are fairly similar in tempo, so this started as an exercise in writing, to come up with a more rapid delivery of lyrics, a more up-tempo number. I wrote it with a latin deel in mind, but in the studio the keyboards gave it an R&B feel, and Mark Hamilton's funky guitar part just iced it. Really pleased with this track!

Song Description

The frivolous list of things I'd sacrifice for love is punctuated by giving up my right to be alone, probably the toughest thing to lose in a lifelong relationship, at least for me! But the point of the song is that my soul, my worship, is so deep insode, and so reserved for the Almighty, that it isn't even spoken out in the song, except in offering this girl to share it with me. Not meant to be a heavy number!

Lyrics

I?d give up all of my guitars
even sell my sexy car
pawn all of my camera gear
amps and bike to have you near
part with both my macintoshes
never stop to count the losses
unload my dvd collection
without a pause for introspection

Pre-refrain a:
auction my dad?s pocket watches
persian rugs and antique glasses
give up everything i own
even my right to be alone

refrain:
cause you?re the one who makes me whole
and you?re the vision of my soul
but what i wouldn?t give
without i couldn?t live
you can share but you can?t own
what i wouldn?t give

I?d walk for hours just to see you
stand outside your bedroom window
even in the pouring rain
just to see your face again
i?d get down on bended knee
all to try to make you see
doesn?t matter what the cost
got to find what we have lost

pre-refrain b:
thought we mastered all the moves
too close to winning just to lose
we owe it to ourselves to try
spread these wings and learn to fly

repeat refrain

Lead Break

But what i wouldn?t give
without i couldn?t live
you can share but you can?t own
what i wouldn?t give
