Story Behind The Song
Surreal Shores was a project inspired by the beautiful beaches of central Florida's gulf coast. The common thread through each piece is the pristine, digitally recorded ocean waves. Each track explores a different mood, some meditative and formless, others stirring and provocative. The original concept focused mainly on simple wooden flutes, but soon expanded to include a wide variety of instruments including clarinet, sax, guitar, and an array of drums and percussion, all performed by Heather Haze.
Song Description
Tranquility by Heather Haze blends digitally recorded ocean sounds with acoustic and electric instruments. The ocean, recorded on Anna Maria Island, Florida, not only provides the setting for the composition, but actually plays an integral part. The music begins with the drone of Tibetan singing bowls and wind chimes. The dumbeck sets the rhythm, layered with other drums and percussion. Over the top, the soulful wanderings of an electric guitar echo melodically through the soothing soundscape. Nominated for the 2010 Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
