You Could Be A Star

Story Behind The Song

The singer is reflecting on a break-up that has already occurred, reminiscing on how good it was in the beginning, then realizing upon reflection that the guy was just a good actor as he had all his lines rehearsed and had lied about most everything. In the chorus, she then states, sarcastically, that his acting was so good, he could be famous and a star, he could have his name on Hollywood boulevard. The singer sums up in the bridge that she needs more than just an actor and a "wannabe", and that she's now ready to move on and find someone genuine and real.

Lyrics

YOU COULD BE A STAR

I still remember words were tender when you whispered in my ear
The things that made our story sweet
You called me baby I thought maybe we were picture perfect
You never seemed to miss a beat

My friends all knew, they saw it first
Your lines were all so well rehearsed

(Chorus)
You could be famous, you could be a star
You could have your name on Hollywood Boulevard
Your looks and charm will always get you far
You could be a star

You think you're clever though I'd never really catch you in the act
Then let our love fade to black

You set the stage, you knew your part
You had it all down to an art

(Chorus)
You could be famous, you could be a star
You could have your name on Hollywood Boulevard
Your looks and charm will always get you far
You could be a star

(Bridge)
I need more than a wanna be
I need to find someone who's genuine and real
Not make believe

(Chorus)
You could be famous, you could be a star
You could have your name on Hollywood Boulevard
Your looks and charm will always get you far
You could be a star
