Story Behind the Song

This is a collaboration with Randal Dunkle. The song is about several topics, First, the beauty of the state of Illinois, the second is about musical great Muddy Waters and Sam Cooke both men were born in Mississippi and then moved to Chicago, IL, the third message is about riding trains and also riding Riverboats and how both of these men probably rode the Chicago trains but in the back of their minds they had to ride a riverboat down the big river (Mississippi River) to get back to their roots.

Broadjam Member Reviews

Excellent tribute song, to a great state. Enjoyed it very much.
Loved the guitar parts, and the vocals the most.

    - Doug Mayberry

Very professional production!! The quality sounds like commercial quality to me. Instruments all are very well played. Vocal is really well processed and singer has just the right vibe for the lyrics. This is really a quality production!!

Lyrics

Illinois, my Illinois
your Muddy Waters your king of soul
Illinois, my Illinois
God made you beautiful, He made you bold

Your freight trains take me to the city
That's where I sing my songs
Your freight trains take me to the city
But your big river takes me home

Illinois I love you Illinois
even in the wintertime when it's so cold
Illinois, my Illinois
Your Muddy Waters your rock and roll

Your freight trains take me to the city
That's where I sing my songs
Your freight trains take me to the city
But your big river takes me home
Takes me home

Takes me home, my Illinois, takes me home, my Illinois, takes me home, My Illinois, takes me home, My Illinois, takes me home, It's time to rock and roll, it's time to rock and roll

Takes me home......repeat
