Story Behind The Song
I was bored at work earlier this year and wrote this poem without hesitating from start to finish as you see it now - it took me less than ten minutes. Only after reading it several times did I realise what it was about. I've been writing songs for many years but this is the first time this has happened to me.
Song Description
A reflective, potentially suicidal man looking back on his failings and lost opportunities. The theme of reading waves along with sea-faring references is potentially a red herring. The waves in question are more closely related to Stevie Smith's celebrated poem on the same subject.

Lyrics
I'm going down
Was only a matter of time for me
Who would have thought such a thing could be?
Nobody saw the signs
Everyone ran behind enemy lines
Leaving me lost in caves
Nobody read the waves
Funny old game
Thought you were part of the picture there
Who could have dreamt you'd run out of air?
Everyone turned away
Nobody knew there were games to play
Bluejackets lost at sea
Feels like the place to be
Further out and feeling cold
A game for young but not for old
Don't tease me with your devil's gold
It's much too late, the truth be told....
Dreaming again
Almost forgot there were people here
How can I make them all disappear?
Throw them a line and run
Tell them this battle is never won
Poems and pirate graves
Nobody read the waves
