Bruce Wayne's Day Off

Story Behind The Song

A first-person account of a relationship gone wrong. Starts with the guy admitting that lately he's pretending everything is okay in the relationship department, but really knows that things are turning for the worse. He tells the girl that he was really the only one putting full effort into the relationship, and that she was giving false feelings in return. In the chorus, the guy resorts back to feeling alone, describing restless nights of discontent and hopelessness.

Lyrics

You never see the wrong
Pretend I'm hanging on
But deep down I felt
that you and I would never be alright
Why does it feel like I'm to blame
I was the only one in this thing
If your heart felt what your lips said
I would be fast asleep tonight

Chorus:
My hands are tied in reason with this mouthful of regret
but no one hears me screaming
and I cannot take back
all those restless nights of sleep without that angel in my bed
screaming, "someone save me!"

You lied again so please
no more apologies
twice done, enough
now I can't trust a goddamned word you say
The only love you've ever known
won't be waiting by the phone
this time you'll get off easy
I can't stand this anymore, just leave

Chorus

Pick up the pieces
I'll show you to the door
Pick up the pieces
what are you waiting for
