Story Behind The Song
I was commisserating with a few buddies about "being alerted" and the effects on the family etc, and this song was born out of where I was in life, coupled with many of my fellow servicemen and women who really do sacrifice so much in the name of our country.
Song Description
Soldiers stationed at placed like Ft Campbell or Ft Bragg often get the call to leave with little or no warning...we all have our reasons for serving and this song reflects mine.

Lyrics
Remembering My Face by Eric Robert Kiefer
Cathy says she's worried
'Cause I can't tell her where I'll be
The call came in the middle of the night
While the kids were sound asleep
Lisa's old enough to know
And I think she'll understand
But, my boy's not even two years old
Will he slip right through my hands...
But, I swore a long time ago
That "THis, I would defend"
And that's a promise that's been etched in stone
Since the day I raised my hand
And It's more than red, white and blue
More than the amber waves of grain
It's about a place that I call home
It's about my son remembering my face
And a silence overtook me as I watched the helicopters land...
This could be a new begining, or the begining of the end...
When the smoke cleared in the morning
And the sun broke through the night
I whispered every prayer I ever knew
And thanked God I was alright
