Alexis was a girl in mind,
her mother was the make-up kind.
Fantasy was their stock in trade,
one supine, the other upright laid.

But, Alexis, why you sleep all day?
Girl, come out and play with me

dancing down streets in my head,
and I was led to her bed.

Alexis saw two towers fall,
so why, she said get up at all?
In my sleep, no one dies,
behind dreams mask, no one cries.

But, Alexis, you have got to live,
if not to take, then to give,
but this was her narrative:

Ill rock n roll when deaths my dawn,
dancing a queen and not a pawn,
and Jesus will save me when Im gone.

One morning I awoke to find
a mourning one was not my kind.
So I pulled back the cover,
and went to find me a daylight lover.

Yes, Alexis, dreams are dear,
but not as blankets for our fear.
And so I whispered into her ear:

Dancing though death is not outrun.
