Story Behind The Song

Dear Family, Friends, Acquaintances & Business Associates,   Sometime around forty years ago I wrote a song called "Love Is The Way". I recorded it in 1981, however at the time nobody really wanted to listen to it's message. Understandable. The world felt safer and less unstable. I recorded it again somewhere around 2007 but never finished it. I played the unfinished track for record producer and dear friend, Mandi Martin in 2011. It was a rock track with lots of metal guitar. Mandi suggested I get rid of the guitars and do a softer approach which we did. This was the start of our collaboration on the song. Sadly Mandi never got to hear the finished version of the song as she passed away on April 30, 2012 from cancer.   The impetus for recording and releasing this song after all these years is simply that the timing of it's message feels right to me. In our private discussions, we decided that it was important to us to try and bring the concept of love back to the forefront of people's consciousness. I could go on and on as to why. However, I think to many of you, as you look around the world, the answer is obvious.   The final point I'd like to convey to you is that we are releasing this song and video for free. On December 8, 1980, on 72nd Street in New York City, John Lennon was assassinated. The great torch that this man carried, shining so brightly for all the world, fell to the pavement and was extinquished. It has lain dormant, smoldering there many years. For whatever reason, be it lack of desire, lack of courage, complacency, contentment, fear, or simply uncaring or unawareness, no one has picked up that torch. Although I will never fill John Lennon's shoes, I felt that with this song, "Love Is The Way," I might try to make a humble attempt to pick up the torch and carry it around the world as John, and others, have done before me. May it continue to burn bright for our children, and their children, and throughout the course of human history. -Barry Keenan
