Lyrics
PARIS CAFÉ
by Duane Anzalone c 2004
One night on South Street
A ship arrived from Mandalay
And all the sailors drew their pay
They hit every bar from Peck Slip
To the Battery
And all the way up to the Paris Café
The joint was jumpin
The crowd was mixed and getting loose
They called the barkeep Moose
Pourin drinks with one hand
He killed the lights and lit the stage
For tonight?s lady chanteuse
And as she took the stage
A sailor caught her eye
Someone she never thought she?d see again
He?d promised to return someday
And take her far away
Far from the Paris Café
She said let?s go now
Moose is here and can?t find out
But as they turned to leave
The sailor felt two hands
Grab him by the neck
And they began to squeeze
Before he blacked out
He heard a pop and people shout
Then they were out the door
Moose was frozen in his tracks
He stumbled once and then fell back
His body hit the floor
One night on South Street
A ship set sail for points unknown
Two lovers were aboard
The sailor looked into her eyes
She pulled out a gun to his surprise
And threw it overboard
