Story Behind The Song
A similar situation happened in a school near me. This country's problem needs to be addressed in a non-hysterical way using reason. I am a proud gun owner who believes common sense dictates a practical limit to almost everything. Writing this song was therapeutic.
Song Description
This is a sad social commentary of the state of affairs in our schools. This is something we read about in the newspaper but stand in utter disbelief when it happens here!
Some of the saddest moments this country has had to face is gun violence in our schools. A similar situation happened in a school near me. Writing this song was good therapy.
The background vocals are chanting "run", not as a warning to run for safety,, but as a commentary about us running from our responsibility to find a solution to this problem.

Lyrics
Lockdown
Tyler brought a gun to gym class got a plan to even up the odds
He grew tired of bein' picked on by the teachers & the preps & jocks
Tyler laughed when he quit cryin' & the bullets rattled cross the floor
Frozen seconds stunned the classrooms while in disbelief the teachers locked the doors
CHORUS
There's a lockdown at the schoolhouse terror creepin' down the halls
Wailing sirens from the precinct spawn a thousand panic calls
On a day that turned from sunshine into a parent's darkest fear
This nightmare called a lockdown
how could it ever happen here
Tyler's picture made the TV for two weeks it was all we heard
Rumor said there had been rumors but his buddies never said a word
Oprah talked about his notebook how the anger poured from his pen
But then we all changed the channel until that dreary day it happened once again
CHORUS
how could It ever happen here
Could it ever happen here
It could never happen here
why did it ever happen here
