Carpe Diem (Down to Me)

Story Behind The Song

In high school, I was chasing after the girl who inspired this song. Time after time, either I failed to say what was on my mind or passed up opportunities. I eventually talked myself into "seizing the day" and creating an opportunity. Eventually, I wrote this song about the experience, hoping it would encourage people to just "go for it."

Song Description

This is a song about chasing after that person you've had your eye on. For whatever reason, things never seem to work out perfectly because you didn't seize opportunities.

Lyrics

Friday night and I'm working up a call
Holding me back in the though of a fall
But I sit and wonder if I'll let another week roll by
The phone is ringing and I'm feeling so good
But something rushed me like I figured it would
"Think fast and backtrack," looks like another week will go by

Things don't ever seem to go the way you have them planned
I get knocked down but I get up again

You're living on top of the world
I'm looking up smiling at you
And I wonder when are you going to come down
Down to me

Saturdays always seem so long
I usually write one or two half-assed songs
I'll sit and wonder if I'll let another chance go by
The plans are set, it's a movie we'll see
Atleast I'll be in your company
Plus seven others, and three or four seats in between

I'm trying now but it's not the scene that I forsaw
I'm backtracking fast but I'm not going far

You're living on top of the world
I'm looking up smiling at you
And I wonder when are you going to come down
Down to me

Nothing ever seems to go the way it should
When courage lacks and the moon's sign isn't good
Change it now, change it now, and make it all your own
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday spent thinking up a plan
Courage comes, courage gone, courage back again
Sunday is going to come and you'll wish you seized the day
Seize the day

Back to Friday and the cycle is complete
My mind is tired and my ego is weak
But I sit and wonder if tonight will be the night I'm with you
The phone is ringing and I'm hearing the sound
Of confidence not letting me down
I talk and wonder if you're going to make my dreams come true

The time has come now, it could leave me lying on the floor
Might not be living high but I'll come back for more

You're living on top of the world
I'm looking up smiling at you
And I wonder when are you going to come down
Down to me
