Reliance

Story Behind The Song

In 1995 the frontwoman lost her husband to suicide and for years wondered what she would have said to him. Since it's impossible to rewind time, she wrote down what she could say to him now, with the belief that the dead are still in fact living. The lyrics basically say to be patient the good will come your way. Don't give up, wait it out. There could never be another you. As soon as Karl had written the guitar part for this song Melanie knew that this was the perfect foundation to write her letter to those who leave life on their own accord. Somewhere within yourself is an abundance of self reliance to overcome all obstacles.

Song Description

Reliance reminds me of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath. But unlike the way Planet Caravan which has a consistent tone throughout, Reliance takes unexpected native like twists in the chorus and at the end which further clarifies the diversity in the material Dead Friend's has to offer. To hear a woman finally singing masculine material in a feminen way is a breath of fresh air. This song will tug at you and pierce your soul.

Lyrics

The color of the sky is falling on the right
See that now it's finally come
Hell sits by alone and comes out a saint.
He lies in bed again
Chorus: See it see it'll even come my way
Your step will become a run
See it see it'll even come my way
Hold out til your gold is spun
A man sits by alone on the ground
Hey your mind has run again on opposites
See it see it'll even come my way
Your step will become a run
See it see it'll even come my way
Hold out til your gold is spun yeah
Chorus
There could never be like another you
and every time you say that's what you'll do.
You're not giving up on me now are ya
Just making sure you're gonna wait it out
Just wait for him to send for ya
You know your time is'nt meant to be now
You're not giving up on me now are ya
Just making sure you're gonna wait it out
Just wait for him to send for ya
You know your time is'nt meant to be now yeah
Yeah...................
