The Enchanted Music Box (Crossing Over) - Story

Story Behind The Song

When I wrote the song, I had the story in mind, but did not record the voice over until a few years ago. I released it on a limited release CD at the time and thought I'd release it here as a single. I hope that you enjoy it.

The Enchanted Music Box (Crossing Over) - Story
©2007 David Bruce Davis

A figure appeared, on a dark stormy night.
Approaching his cabin, he saw a dim light.
It flickered a bit as he entered his door,
then walked across the old creaking floor.
Lifting the lid of the old music box,
The one that he bought with the wedding bell blocks.
Engravings with gold, the lettering said,
?To Thee, My Love, I Humbly Wed.?
?I give you my life, my darling Soul-mate,?
?Our love is now bound by destiny?s fate.?

He lifted the lid and turned the brass key,
Backing away he fell to his knee,
Sending her prayers, for she passed away,
A year ago Sunday, on this very day.
A tear fell softly and onto the ground.
A deep heartened sadness, inside, he found.
He misses her so deeply, at the end of his day,
He was tired of living without her this way.

A frail hardened man, now akin to the weak
Her face used to brighten, his smile so meek.
Lost in the memories, he sits by the fire,
And lights up his pipe, to remember desire.
He drags a big cloud of his favorite smoke,
And stares at the fire in his bowl as he tokes.
It soothes his soul slowly, he puts down to rest,
His pipe on the table, and takes a deep breath.

He closes his eyes, while the music still plays,
Remembering himself on his own wedding day.
At the end of the aisle he awaited his bride.
Gleaming with happiness, beaming with pride.
How did he deserve her? He wondered aloud.
What did he do to make her so proud?
To spend their existence, in marital bliss,
Locked in embraces, they sealed with a kiss.
Off to (the place) where they would first dance.
As husband and wife, they would give life a chance.
Their hopes and their dreams would become one and the same.
And live to the fullest and never to blame.

They danced round and round as the music swelled.
A feeling came over him, spinning and loud.
All of a sudden warmth grabbed hold,
Taking his hand, she pulled him closer, away from the cold
He looked at the light on the familiar dance floor,
And saw his dear bride and wanted her more.
Then realizing that this was not a dream.
He was with her again, and his smile did beam.

They were young once again as they danced round the floor.
And entered the light as they danced out the door.
The music box played its enchanted old theme,
As a pipe smoldered out to disappear in the dream.

True love is the greatest gift of them all.
No matter how big, no matter how small.
If true love does find you, it?s never to late,
To dance to this theme with your darling Soul-mate.
Enchanted and old is this song across time.
The music box plays to a love that?s divine.
