Story Behind The Song
"Around the Bend" was written just after I graduated from college. I found myself really unsure of where I was headed and what I wanted to do. Everything seemed like it was up for grabs, but at the same time like I was trapped.
I was hoping the song could really capture that feeling - struggling between maintaining your balance and getting swallowed up in all the uncertainty.
Song Description
Musically, "Around the Bend" is meant to be both intimate, and sweeping in its scope. With big piano chords set against an ambient backdrop of synths and organs, there's an implied rhythm that seems to be counting down until the drums kick in later on in the song.
Lyrically, the song touches on issues of insecurity and doubt that often creep into our everyday lives, but circumvents that uncertainty by instilling hope - that things will eventually fall into place the way that they're supposed to.
