Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song for my "unofficial" niece on the occasion of her Sweet Sixteen party. My wife and I have known the girl and her family her whole life; and the inspiration for the song came from old photos from trips taken when she was just a young child.
Song Description
"Light & Paper" is sung from the POV of a parent who reminisces warmly as he/she looks at old photos of his/her child. The child, now a young adult, is a source of pride but will also always be that little person the parents loved and raised through the years.
"Light & Paper" would be a perfect fit for this opportunity (Nostalgic song from a parent's point-of-view as a child prepares for college.)
If the song is selected, the composer will be happy to provide a new/different treatment or production as required.

Light & Paper
Words & Music

(Includes optional lyrics for male or female subject.)
Staring at old photographs
Of you when you were young
On a boat out on the water
Underneath the midday sun
That was many years ago
But still your song's yet to be sung
And it's amazing how you're changing everyday
Where's that little girl in pigtails (little boy in blue jeans) by the bay?
I know you've grown, but that will always be the way
The way that I remember you
In a field of dancing daisies
Underneath a southern sky
You are smiling, I am crying
For the youth that's in your eyes
I pray that spirit ever moves you
Until the day you die
'Cause it's amazing how you're changing day to day
Where's that little girl in pigtails (little boy in blue jeans) by the bay?
And though you've grown, that will always be the way
The way that I remember you
Every memory reminds me
What these images can do
How just a little light and paper
Can take me back to you
You're standing in the doorway
When I hear you call my name
I turn around and notice you
And you still look the same
The way you did when all the world was new
And life was just a game
I see the woman (young man) you're becoming day by day
And miss that little girl in pigtails (little boy in blue jeans) by the bay
Hope you'll forgive me, that will always be the way
The way that I remember you
Whenever I remember you
As long as I remember you
