Song Description

Ya Gotta Believe when things go bad, when thinfgs are at their worst, when everything goes wrong, you still gotta believe things will turn out well. It's that or give up; and nobody should ever give up.

Story Behind the Song

Ya Gotta Believe is the motto of baseball pitcher Tug McGraw of the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. He died of brain cancer but was always still an inspiration to others. This is in tribute to Tug (who knew since I was a sports writer in the 1970s.

Lyrics

YA' GOTTA BELIEVE

Sometimes you'll feel-- like the world ignores you.
Or you'll feel a pain - nothing can relieve.
When the critics in the crowd, shout their curses harsh and loud,
just remem--ber, Ya' Gotta Believe.

Sometimes you'll feel-- the whole world's against you.
And people you trust - may chose to deceive.
Though fate may do you wrong, your heart can still be strong,
as long as you know, Ya' Gotta Believe.

Winter gives a chill, but new life comes with spring.
If your world is cold, you can't tell what hope may bring.

Sometimes you'll feel-- you are so outnumbered.
You'll think success is - too hard to achieve.
Yesterday they had you down, yet today you'll wear the crown.
It begins with the phrase, Ya' Gotta Believe.

Winter gives a chill, but new life comes with spring.
If your world is cold, you can never tell what hope may bring.

Sometimes you'll feel-- you are so outnumbered.
You'll think success is- too hard to achieve.
Yesterday they had you down, yet today you'll wear the crown.
It begins with the words, Ya' Gotta Believe.

Yesterday you were a tramp; tomorrow you're the champ.
It all comes from -- Ya' Gotta Believe.
Ya' Gotta Believe.
Ya' Gotta - Be-lieve.
