Drive

Story Behind The Song

I used to drive from Nashville, TN, to West Point, MS, every weekend to see my fiancée (now wife). I had an old, beat-up 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the idea for this song came to me about 2:00 in the morning, passing through Jackson, TN. My engine started making noises and I said to myself "It don't matter if this truck falls apart. I'll run, or walk or crawl if I have to."

Song Description

Long distance relationships are tough. My wife and I did it for over four years, but we made it work. It took long drives every weekend, but I learned that through tenacity and hard work, nothing can stop true love. Not even a broke down truck.

Lyrics

Driven straight for the past four hours
Still got a hundred miles to go
It's been too long since I've seen you, baby
Now I've blown out my radio
But it don't matter if this truck falls apart
I'm gonna get to you no matter how far

Tryin to stay away from Smokey
I've got this pedal to the floor
I ain't slowin down and I ain't givin up
Until I'm standing at your door
But it don't matter if this truck falls apart
I'm gonna get to you no matter how far

I have to drive
No matter how fast I have to run
Doesn't matter what it takes
I'm gonna make it to you, babe
No matter how long I have to walk
No matter how low I have to crawl
Babe, to get to you I'd do it all
I'll run, I'll walk, and I'll crawl
I have to drive

The taste of your sweet lips keeps me goin
Ain't nothing gonna keep me from you
Even a roadblock won't stop me, baby
Cause I'll blow on through
And it don't matter if this truck falls apart
I'm gonna get to you no matter how far

I have to drive
No matter how fast I have to run
Doesn't matter what it takes
I'm gonna make it to you, babe
No matter how long I have to walk
No matter how low I have to crawl
Babe, to get to you I'd do it all
I'll run, I'll walk, and I'll crawl
I have to drive

I have to drive
No matter how fast I have to run
Doesn't matter what it takes
I'm gonna make it to you, babe
No matter how long I have to walk
No matter how low I have to crawl
Babe, to get to you I'd do it all
I'll run, I'll walk, and I'll crawl
I have to drive

No matter what it takes
I'll make it to you, babe
