It's the Way

Story Behind The Song

I wrote "It's the Way" about the feeling I get after completing a song, and the happiness it brings me. Songwriting can be as sure as the sunrise one day, and not so much the next. When I'm in the zone and songs are coming out, it feels incredible and not many things can compare to it. I use the choruses to express what those feelings do to me, and the verses and bridge to imagine how it may be to "make it" in the music business. This tune could be mistaken for a love song if you're not listening carefully, but that's ok with me.

VERSE 1
Will I go up for hire
Or will I get what's desired
Someday I think I'll tire
My someday never expires
Time to see what we're made of
When the pushin' comes to shove
Use the things given to us
To help us all become famous

CHORUS
It's the way that you walk in my head at night
And the way you add color to black and white
It helps me to appreciate my life
That much more
Than before
It's the way that you flow from head to hand
And the way that you come across in pen
It helps me when I feel the need to mend
So much more
Than before

VERSE 2
I've known that it's been inside me
And now it's finally unwinding
Feels like there's something I have won
I hope I've only just begun
We aren't getting any younger
I wish we could kill the wonder
Seems like we've got the know-how
All we need is some luck now

CHORUS
It's the way that you walk in my head at night
And the way you add color to black and white
It helps me to appreciate my life
That much more
Than before
It's the way that you flow from head to hand
And the way that you come across in pen
It helps me when I feel the need to mend
So much more
Than before

BRIDGE
Come in
And stay
For a while
For a while
More work
Than play
But it's better
Yeah it's better
Than work
Each day
And you smile
And you smile
When you
Get paid
And recognized
By the fans' eyes

CHORUS
It's the way that you walk in my head at night
And the way you add color to black and white
It helps me to appreciate my life
That much more
Than before

It's the way that you flow from head to hand
And the way that you come across in bed
It helps me when I feel the need to mend
So much more
Than before
It's the way you strip darkness down to light
And the feeling you leave that is I just might
It helps me ascertain all the things inside
That much more
Than before
