Song Description

A hard-working outdoors man in the American South cannot stand the separation from his woman any longer. He quits, leaving friends and pay behind, and hitches a ride home, fantasising and imagining how it will be when he is welcomed home.

Story Behind the Song

We wanted to write a simple male country love song - about separation and a natural and unaffected love and passion for his partner. Sung on our version by Nashville singer Randall Lee Jnr: thanks for the good work, Randall.

Lyrics

BACK HOME
© Rob Benham & Chris Ring

The sun beats down upon on my neck
Working fifteen hours straight
I need to get back home soon,
Honey, you know I can't wait

I can't stop seeing your face
You are always on my mind
And when life screws me up some
You always help me to unwind

Did I ever tell you how I love you in that dress?
Y'know, the one that is so revealing
Sends my pulse up to the ceiling -

Got to get back home soon
Wanna be back home with you -
Gonna hitch a ride, a train, or drive
'Cos this job and me are through -

Soon I will be back home
Gonna be back home with you -
We'll be all alone
Turning off the phone
This rolling stone
Is rolling home to you

I'm lying on a flatbed
On a bumpy dirt track road
I left behind my buddies,
And all the money I am owed

But I'll find something somewhere
Though I don't know when or how
Gettin' to be beside you
Is the only thing right now

What we are gonna do when we are on our own?
Pull the blinds, turn off the TV,
Take it from there, and baby let's see...

Got to get back home soon
Wanna be back home with you -
It's a rocky ride but I'm satisfied
If my life is spent with you -

Soon I will be back home
Gonna be back home with you -
We'll be all alone
Turning off the phone
This rolling stone
Is rolling home to you

I got to get back home soon
Wanna be back home with you -
It's a rocky ride but I'm satisfied
If my life is spent with you -

Soon I will be back home
Gonna be back home with you -
'Cos your perfume's strong
Got your high heels on
And it's one on one,
Back home with you...

Soon I will be back home...
Gonna be back home with you...

Back home with you...

Soon I will be back home...
