Song Description

I think it's a song about acceptance. So it's bittersweet and for me there's some humor in it too.

Story Behind the Song

My wife and I were facing some very tough times and I wanted to comfort her and myself. I sat down on the beach in Spring Lake, New Jersey and wrote this in about 20 minutes.

Lyrics

IIT'S TRUE,
SOMEDAY WE'RE GONNA DIE,
I DON'T WHEN OR WHY,
I ONLY KNOW IT'S TRUE.

AND IT'S TRUE,
OUR BONES'LL START TO CREAK,
HOPEFULLY NOT NEXT WEEK,
THAT'S NOT SAD IT'S ONLY TRUE.

BUT TODAY THE SUN IS SHININ' YOU AND I ARE FINE'N,
WE CAN MAKE IT THROUGH.

SO HOLD ON
WE CAN MAKE IT TILL TOMORROW
THOUGH WE'LL HAVE OUR SHARE OF SORROW.
DON'T CRY IT'S ONLY TRUE.

BUT TODAY OUR LITTLE GIRL IS PLAYIN' ALL I'M REALLY SAYIN'
IS WE'VE GOT LOTS TO DO,

SO IT'S TRUE
THE ROAD AHEAD WILL BEND
THIS LOVELY DAY WILL END
DON'T CRY IT'S ONLY TRUE,
I DON'T WHY IT'S ONLY TRUE.
