Story Behind The Song
The story behind this song:
hmmmm........
Like every other song I've written, I was up late fiddling with my guitar thinking a myriad of thoughts.
Everything from how I can't ever imagine spending four hours with a few dudes in funny outfits playing golf to wondering why the fuck Republicans and Democrats continue to posture and delay when they all know our health care system is broken. (quite honestly - I'm thinking that the Dems are acting like a bunch of school yard punks. They've got the votes to do something but still just talk. To quote The King, "A Little Less Conversation, A Little More Action Please".)
My bad - I tend to care passionately about things like healthcare and occasionaly inappropriately engage!
Anyway - I'm not a party guy -just a regular old Patriot, Countryman and Citizen Rocker who wants to see some change and some people helped.
Back to the song?
So in the midst of that usual late night miandering of thought and plinking around on my guitar I was struck by a moment of awe at where I actually am in my life.
I'm a guy with a great wife, lovely kids, some dogs, a day job and a working Rock 'N Roll Band.
How the fuck did I get so lucky?
I took a moment to reflect on all the relationships, self doubt, letting go and healing I had to do before I finally met my wife and developed a relationship that truly set me free.
This whole thought process took place around 1 AM.
By 2 I'd written the song.
It just kind of happened that way.
Song Description
"Long Gone" is a fast moving, melodic and hard driving Rock tune in which a guy describes how he's been trying to keep together a relationship that has been over for a hell of a long time.
The good news is that the song portrays this realization in a tone of positive self awareness, happiness and looking forward.
This guy has tried hard to connect with his lady only to finally realize that she'll never love him back.
There are times when the more we love someone, the more they reject us.
The real issue is what we do with that experience and how we treat ourselves once we realize that a love is "Long Gone".
The guy in this song finally got it right.

Lyrics
Verse 1:
My heart may be broken but my spirit hangs on.
I seem most at ease where I don't belong.
I had an idea, had a vision one time.
I was right where I should be at the end of a line.
So I'm gone -
'cause this love is long gone
Chorus:
My heart ain't fool enough-
To keep on keepin'on this way.
I've felt this way enough -
To know I can't stay because This love is long gone
This love is long gone.
It's all gone now.
Verse 2:
A cold winds blowin' right next to me.
I'm taking off my jacket gonna roll up my sleeves.
A whole lot of your hurt ain't hurting me.
You can turn out the lights but baby I can still see.
And I'm gone - this love is long gone
Chorus:
My heart ain't fool enough-
To keep on keepin'on this way.
I've felt this way enough -
To know I can't stay because This love is long gone
This love is long gone.
It's all gone now.
Guitar Solo
Verse 3:
I've been walking on the edge with you leaning on me.
This don't feel like a love that can set you free.
I tried to hard wire my heart to stay.
But you want hlf a man and I can't live that way.
So I'm gone - this love is long gone
Chorus:
My heart ain't fool enough-
To keep on keepin'on this way.
I've felt this way enough -
To know I can't stay because This love is long gone
This love is long gone.
It's all gone now.
