Song Description

This song was an attempt to bring as much powerful imagery into describing the sense of isolation and fear as a I could. I was attempting to conjur a mental landscape that binds us but is unseen - that kind of thing.

Story Behind the Song

Inspired by a drunk homeless guy I saw on the street and in my emotional state felt an affinity with.

Lyrics

Obsidian
Ben Connor, 1996.

Solid pavement under his feet
A crimson sky with a blood red streak
Movements on the horizon as the shadow creeps
From east to west like a blackened beast

Visions of fading moons and nova night skies
Converging in convolutions of failure
Bereft of the signs of redemption
Of wind wielding lies
Inequality weaving the vices of these women and men

With their suitcases preciously sewn
The seasons unnoticed from their towers of stone
From evening to morning a fire burns in his mind
The world swoons in misery and sways on the opulent tide

His identity feared to the last of his days
Wary of judgement he searched for his freedom
So led by emotion he withdrew from the world
To bathe in self pit
Alone undisturbed
Were his thoughts worth thinking, was his mind in the clear
Did the blind lead the dazed, was there truth in confusion
Pain in uncertainty wasting the years
Stuffing his mind with the hindering forces of fear.

A child fears
A baby cries
He screamed for salvation through closed walls of failure
Weaving his wounds for his desolate lies
Languidly searching and yearning a consummate mind
With a fire like a steam train on line
Through shades of endearment the obsidian spear pierced his eyes

Enfolding asylums of pain
Twisting the highway of a desert terrain
A vicissitudinous journey through a storm strangled void
His dice missed the table and rolled through his desolate mind

Siddhata Guatama said
Your longing, aversions and attachments will lead you to pain
So relax my child
Let it all float bye
Don?t try to save the world no more

Solid pavement under his fee
A crimson sky with a blood red streak
Movement on the horizon as the shadow creeps
From east to wets like a blackened beast
Visions of fading moons and nova night skies
Converging in convolutions of failure
Bereft of the signs of redemption
