Lyrics
On the day that I left Ireland
The skies above were so blue
But the seas were cold and my heart grew old
On the day that I left Ireland
I packed my dreams away
And left my tears behind
How I worked and prayed for those who stayed
They were always on my mind
I travelled far and wide
And everywhere I'd roam
I'd find me place through God's good grace
But it never felt quite like home
On the day that I left Ireland
The skies above were so blue
But the seas were cold and my heart grew cold
On the day that I left Ireland
The days have come and gone
And the end seems close at hand
May I rest my soul in the green and gold
Of my heavenly Ireland
But if I should not return
My sons and daughters may
So I'll just wait by heaven's gate
Till they're calling mr home to stay
On the day that I left Ireland
I vowed that I'd stay true
So my heart will be young on the day I've begun
My return to old Ireland
So my heart will be young on the day I've begun
My return to old Ireland
