When Trouble Wrecks Your Home

Story Behind The Song

The first of four songs on the EP, When Trouble Wrecks Your Home begins the story of heartbreak that leads the writer to find happiness in being true to herself. She comes home to find her lover with another woman and decides that she needs to find her sense of self again. She moves to another city without knowing what she might find there, but she's determined to find a new life and love.

Song Description

The writer discovers that her lover has been cheating on her while she is away. She can't believe that she didn't see it coming, but decides to pack bags and go somewhere else and begin a new life. The writer works through her fear of the unknown and the simple yet catchy chorus hook reflects her sadness. The train beat in the drums drives the song in its entirety while the baritone guitar gives the song a down home feel.

Lyrics

Walked into my house early this morning
Found her clothes lying on my bed
I can still hear the voices screaming
Just what's going on here she said

I told myself I should know better
Your words couldn't be further from true
Try as I might to put things right
You've given up on me
and I've given up on you

And I cried oh whoa whoa whoa whoa
My heart sighed oh no no no no
When trouble wrecks your home

And I'll head east out to Indiana
Buy a house over on the east side
Packing up a life I loved and leaving
It wasn't quite what I had in mind

You can have my home there in the city
Near the market right downtown
I can't stay near your black beret
Of lies, your words of no renown

[Chorus]

When you don't know where you're going
Or what tomorrow will become
I don't know where I'm driving to
I don't know what I'm running from
But in time I'm sure to find
someone who is true
Someone sweet to sweep me off my feet
Just sure as hell ain't you, oh no

[Chorus]
