You Don't See

Story Behind The Song

One of my close friends kept going back to a man who just couldn't appreciate how amazing she was. In fact, he was so undiscerning of her needs and special nature, it bordered on abuse. Originally, I played this song as an upbeat tune, but Bill Bentley showed me that the lyrics and melody demanded it be played in a blues style. As always, he was right on. I was so happy to include my children, Emily and Sean, on the background vocals.

Lyrics

You Don't See

You gave your life up for a man who doesn't care
Well, tell me, is he standing there beside you?
You say he holds a world of promise in his hands
But he doesn't seem to give a damn about you

Chorus: And I think it's high time you took a little closer look
At where you happen to be
It's not easy but just take a look around you, baby
Look, look -- you don't see

Have you ever seen him with a love light in his eyes
Does he recognize you're such a special lady?
I only ever see him cut you down to size
And I have to say it's driving me crazy

Chorus

Now I'm not trying to be uncaring or unkind
And judge him by the contents on the label
I'm just reminding you love can be so blind
I know you'd see it if you were able

Chorus
