Step Up to the Plate

Story Behind The Song

Do you ever get tired of hearing people complain about their lives? Seems like there was a period when I was hearing a lot of whining about relationships, jobs, world events, etc. and, being an enabler, I immediately started thinking of ways to help make things better. But then, at some point, it dawned on me that we each have to take charge of our lives and find a way to live with decisions we make. If it isn't working, change it or move on....I recognize that everyone whines (I'm a prime example and have been practicing to get the absolute finest whine) but after awhile, no one can hear us anymore. Step up to the plate - own your life!

Lyrics

V1: You tell me you've been drifting
Can't seem to stand your ground
You let other people tell you
How you should walk, talk, and sound
Well, I know you think it matters
And it may to some extent, you see
But living solely to please others
Isn't how life's meant to be

Cho: Step up to the plate
I'm telling you straight
Now is the time for you to shine
And find your sweet spot in this world
Step up to the plate

V2: I don't have a lot of patience
I don't like to wait
Maybe that's my problem
Or maybe my best trait
I gotta keep moving
Moving fast
As you can see, my philosophy
Is there's no future in the past

Cho:

Tag: Swing and a miss - keep your eye on the ball
Wind-up and the pitch over the centerfield wall
Step up to the plate

V3: You say you're tired of being a victim
Letting others call the shots
Well, I'm tired of hearing about it
We deserve the lives we've got
The life you want is waiting
It's there for you to take
Don't waste another day wishing things would go your way
Step up to the plate
