Lyrics

Righteous True Believer

V1: Father was a righteous true believer
Known far and wide for all his saintly deeds
Mother stood beside him, seeming not to mind
While the garden in her heart turned to weeds
This daughter filled them with both fear and wonder
A child, yet so much older than her years
They tried to tell her life might disappoint her
Their warnings fell deaf upon my ears

Cho: I see more clearly now
Every day will be alright

V2: I grew up singing songs with secret meanings
Known only to my heart and no one else
Assured of my own worth and special nature
I kept this knowledge locked within myself
And then one day I met a stronger spirit
Who chose me from the rest to be his bride
Overcome with gratitude at his decision
I gave myself to feed his endless pride

Cho:

V3: He called it love, I called it suffocation
I licked my wounds, removed the ring I'd worn
And from this very brief and stormy union
A child was born, a rose among the thorns
And now it seems I've traveled a full circle
A child myself, yet mother to a child
But the music in my heart, the songs that live there
Never left, they've just been sleeping for awhile

Cho:
