Land of Make Believe

Story Behind The Song

Who knows where these ideas come from? I started playing a jazzy groove on my guitar and, the next thing you know, this little ditty comes streaming out. It was lots of fun to write, especially with the challenging rhyme scheme.

Lyrics

V1: You wonder how I do it
Face life and smile through it
There's nothing to it in the land of make believe
Well, it may sound kinda funny
But you don't need fame or money
It's always sunny in the land of make believe

It's my own concoction - I've been adoptin'
Whenever trouble comes knocking
That's where I go

There may be heartache in the heartland
And earthquakes in Afghanistan
But there's milkshakes in the land of make believe

V2: When there's treason in Ireland
And rebels seizing Pakistan
There's freedom in the land of make believe
There may be sadness in the madhouse
And madness in the White House
But there's gladness in the land of make believe

When I find myself craving'
A respite from my slavin'
There's a safe haven awaiting' me

So if you're feeling kinda wistful
Facing problems by the fistful
Remember - it's blissful in the land of make believe

So if you're tired of living in mayhem
Come join me where I am
Livin' in the land of make believe
