Song Description

We all do things we regret - accept the blame, apologize, learn from the experience, and try to do better.

Story Behind the Song

I sat down to do some fingerpicking on my Martin and the phrase "forgive yourself" came to me. I thought about someone I know whose regret for past actions seemed to wear on him and his face. It dawned on me that we've all done things we regret and somehow we need to learn from them and be able to forgive ourselves.

Lyrics

V1: I forgive you for what you've done
We were both so very young
You can't right every wrong
It's time to move on
Forgive yourself - forgive yourself

V2: I can see it on your face
I can feel the toll it takes
We all fall from grace
We all make mistakes
Forgive yourself - forgive yourself

Bridge: Nothing you can do will ever change the past
But this is now and that was then
You need to try to understand why
So it doesn't happen again

V3: Listen to me
I want you to be the best you can be
Accept the blame - fall on your knee
Then take the shame and set it free
Forgive yourself - forgive yourself
Forgive yourself - Amen
