Catch My Tears

Story Behind The Song

I wrote the verses to this song when I was in high school. My parents were understandably dismayed at the reference to making love but, as I vociferously explained to them as I was being grounded yet again, I was writing from esoteric celibacy and using poetic license rather than from actual experience. I added the bridge just before recording this version so many years after writing the original verses.

Lyrics

Catch My Tears

V1: Catch my tears in your hand and feel them
Capture my grief and make it your smile
Keep it awhile - until forever

V2: Write your life on my heart and seal it
Let the words flow as if they had wings
And I will sing of beauty unequaled

Bridge: Life is short - let's make it sweet
Find a place where joy and sadness meet
Someday we may know what it means
Maybe tragedy is not as tragic as it seems

V3: Why be sad? Let's rejoice in our blessing
You are a gift I cannot deny
You and I will make love our language
