Story Behind The Song

This song sat on my shelf for a long time. I heard the incomperable Sally Elsey do a couple of numbers when she was working with engineer extrodinare, starscreamsrevenge(both Broadjamers) and thought she would do a great job on this tune. She did. Great lead vocal and she added beautiful, tight harmonies to round out the whole package. Michael on drums, Byron on bass, I did the 12 strings, Miles on the keys. Fine job by all.

Song Description

I was aiming for that wistful, quiet, rainy day, moment of reflection when we think of past lovers and friends and what might have happened.

He really wasn't all that bad looking.
Everybody said he was going to make it someday.
Someday.

The first time I got to look at him
we were both too young to say
"What about tomorrow?"
What about today?

I always found him to be quite amusing
and he would always play his part.
Then one day he turned and said to me,
"Forget about my smile, what about my heart.
What about my heart."

So we made a sort of promise.
And I guess he really thought it was true.
Was true.

I never thought that I would ever say this
Now I wish I kept that promise too.
Kept that promise too.

We never spoke much of the times that we made it
and I always said that we would part.
But how was I to know that I traded

That easy smile for my heart.
Your easy smile for my heart.
