Dirty Hotel

Story Behind The Song

I had a lot of fun with effects on this one. I tried two different distrtions on the two guitars. The bass and drums are reverbed and flanged. I threw in a funky organ. On the vocals I went a little nuts, a bunch of pitch and phase shifters. What the heck!

Song Description

This is a tune about a guy in a situation where he thinks he is in control but he really isn't. He finds himself in an out of the way hotel, playing cards with some hot chick and is way over his head. He doesn't even know it.

It was a Dirty Hotel in the middle of a hot spell
and she couldn't have looked much cleaner.
I would have tried if I thought she'd comply
you really should have seen her.
Disadvantaged, somehow I managed to produce my gentleman's smile
but she turned around and said,
"Hey boy, slow down,
I think I'm gonad stay for a while."

So, I pulled up a chair, tried not to stare
until I found out which game we were playing.
I realized she saw through my lies
so I looked like I knew what I was saying.
Really cool I was nobody's fool
and I thought I was doing the playing.
'Till I threw the pass and she started to laugh
I knew it wasn't worth staying.

Ah, don't we make it look easy.
Its not much, but it helps pass the time.
And you say its driving you crazy.
I know how hard it is to be decent and kind,
Decent and kind.

I was sitting there with a couple of pair
and the sakes were growing higher.
I drew a boat, lit up a smoke
I would have sold it to the highest buyer.
In command of a mighty nice hand
I thought that we all could retire.
'Til the cards were laid down and some drunken clown
had four kings
I called him a liar.

So I left the game after saying something strange
and went off to conquer the planet.
I was hidden so well no one could tell
some friends thought the spacemen had landed.
Badly shaken, I thought I'd been taken
but I found it was only for granted.
So I asked the coach for the best approach,
he said,"Give them your coat."
and then he fainted.

Ah, don't we make it look easy.
Its not much, but it helps pass the time.
And you say its driving you crazy.
I know how hard it is to be decent and kind,
Decent and kind.
