My buddy said, "Let's go shoot some squirrel". I said, "Hell yeah, I'll give it a whirl"
So we hit the woods for our favorite hunting blind.
We waited all day and we waited all night, But there wasn't one danged squirrel in sight
So we packed it in thinkin' something just ain't right

We headed back down into town, And started asking all around
Nobody seemed to know what was goin' on
We started home, feelin' beat, then a twister came down Main Street
The skies were getting' dark and the wind was blowin'

Well the damn thing scared me half to death and I ain't usually such a 'fraidy-cat'
But I ran and hid in Lester Whitford's Store

When it passed there was a lot of debris,
There's paper stuck to my windshield,
When I peeled it off, this is what I saw:

"COME ONE, COME ALL
DOWN HERE TO HOOTEN'S HOLLER
EVERYBODY COME ON DOWN AND SEE THE SHOW,
BRING YOUR SONS AND BRING YOUR DAUGHTERS
ADMISSION'S JUST A DOLLAR
IT'S THE EARLE COUNTY SQUIRREL RODEO

So I rounded up all of my kin, So many we had to rent a van
And we lit outta there to find this promised land.
We drove all day and half the night, When we finally saw this little sign
It said "WELCOME TO EARLE COUNTY-Pop. 25"

When we got there we asked 'em all just where we could find this rodeo
But once again, nobody seemed to know
Then one old man said, "Lemme think" then he scratched his head and he rubbed his chin
"First right, second left", was all he spoke.
So we drove through the woods 'bout a mile and a half, walked another mile down an old dirt path
We's about to turn around, then there it was.

I'll admit they looked kinda cute I their tiny little hats and cowboy boots
They were riding groundhogs, tryin' to rope bullfrogs.
We started to shoot and they started to scatter, they ran real fast but it didn't matter
We just kept firing till every one of them was gone.
Well we musta killed about a hundred and ten so we loaded'em up in the back of the van
And we turned around and we took ourselves back home

Had squirrel pie for dinner, all that winter but my wife was lookin' a might bit thinner
So I asked her, "Baby,Honey, Darlin', what is wrong?"
She said I'm sick of squirrel and I'm tired of you and I'll tell you what I'm gonna do
You'll be hearing from my lawyer in the morning.

Now the judge listened to her long sad tale, "Intolerable Cruelty", was all he said
As he banged that gavel down and I was gone.
So if you don't wanna end up all alone, and you wanna save your happy home
Listen up, I'll tell you where I went wrong
Next time you see a sign that says: SQUIRREL RODEO UP AHEAD
Do your best to try to just ignore it.
'Cause there's nothing worse than an empty bed, unless it's alimony payments
And living in a tent out in the forest.

"COME ONE, COME ALL
DOWN HERE TO HOOTEN'S HOLLER
EVERYBODY COME ON DOWN AND SEE THE SHOW,
BRING YOUR SONS AND BRING YOUR DAUGHTERS
ADMISSION'S JUST A DOLLAR
IT'S THE EARLE COUNTY SQUIRREL RODEO"
