That Old Barn

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song about an actual barn I played in as a child and in 2004 it started leaning and I knew it was just a matter of time when it would fall and I wanted to capture the memories of it before it was gone. Jackie Atkins

Lyrics

The shades of red are weathered gray
On that old barn where we used to go to play
It's a leanin' to the East
Overlooking what we called High Point Creek

Sittin' in the loft where we could see
The Smoky Mountains and valleys of Tennesse
The old well house is just over there
Up in the loft we could see everywhere.

Chorus

We were on top of the world in that old barn
No where better to be than down on the farm
Roy racoon eating corn and the chickens scratching up a storm
We could see it all from that old barn.

Sackin out on dusty bales of hay
That's what we done on those hot summer days
Or hide out in those empty stalls
Whenever we heard our grandpa call..you know we'd just giggle..
