Ever Since featuring Tenaj

Story Behind The Song

I came to the studio as usual when one of my producers (Brandan Toledo) asked me to listen to this beat, and he asked me if I can describe the time or era when I fell for hiphop. I wrote the record before Brandan finished arranging it and transfering it to Logic. The record was actually the last one we mixed down for the "Sneak Peek" Mixtape and as a result we showed it to Tenaj, an upcoming neo Soul artist from Miami, and she jumped on the chorus layering the original sample. the rest is history!

Song Description

On this record I go as far describing specific events of the HipHop timeline and telling it from my perspective. I basically took it from the concept of Common's "I Used To Love Her" record done in the mid 90's.

Lyrics

Ever Since

(Chorus)

EVER SINCE THE DAY, I SAW YOU...

Just by the "WAY" that you looked at me/

I took your breath "AWAY" and you was hooked on me/

(Verse 1)

Ayo yo first things first, DaVincci makes it hurt when it comes to the verse/

I put the muscle in first before the hustle & work/

straight tussling words, not hustlin' dirt/

I'm possessed by hiphop, what I'm sayin' is cursed/

record these sick thoughts, before I lay in the hurst/

But if worst comes to worst my peoples come first/

Reppin' for my city, 305 to the Chi/

The side that ain't pretty, make your eyes open wide/

I'm Optimus Prime when it comes to rhymes/

Describe everything that I see through mines/

unlike them other phonys, just skip between the lines/

what happen to the old school, new school vibe?/

I used to love her much but all she cares about is shine/

Complains all the time, sometimes shes hard to find/

Sniff a couple lines, make her feel real divine/

She singing styles P, wanna blow yo mind/

And I remember back in the day, Listening to rappers like Jay/

Z to AZ & NaS was amazing & Biggie was the same thing/

Snoop was on the Dre thing, while Pac was on the same team/

Screaming "fuck the world" and then we felt the ache pain/

Heard the news flash, shooter gets away right before the 2 passed/

The dudes fast, Right after the Wu's cash rules/

everything around you, and then I found you/

Chillin' with 2 of the illest, & they from the south 2/

Big Boi & 3 G, rhymes so vivid I see'em in 3D/

you see D, was never type, to fall for the hype/

Almost lost my mind when I heard Em on the mic/

Xzibit was tight, Onyx Shut'em down & Pun was king for the night/

Makaveli dropped, & everybody was like/

"ayo Pac's back!... SIKE!/

got on the train of thought, had a reflection of life/

now it's Get rich or die trying, 187's the flight...
